Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have the right equipment and can't afford it—how do I use your service?

DentalRays differs from other service providers. We can install the equipment in your facility that allows you to transmit images to us for interpretation. This is one of our value added services. Our equipment meets the American College of Radiology (ACR) standards for teleradiology.

What are your consultation fees?

Radiographs/per case   $47.50
CT   $75.00
CBCT   $75.00
MRI   $95.00
STAT charge - 60 minutes or less   $25.00

What do you mean by "guaranteed 60 minute turnaround for STATs"?

In the event that we do not meet our 60-minute guarantee, the STAT fee will be waived. We strive to get every STAT report out within 60 minutes. Our average time is typically less than 30 minutes.

I have a modestly-sized practice. How can I afford DentalRays' services?

Our service is no different than medical radiology. The cost of the consult is a pass-through expense paid by the patient. There should be no increased cost to the clinic or hospital. We have found that most patients find comfort in knowing they are getting the highest quality care possible. Our modest interpretation fees are a small part of the overall cost of the visit.

How does DentalRays differ from other companies?

DentalRays maintains the highest standards in the industry. All of our services meet or exceed the strict guidelines of the ACR as they apply to medical teleradiology. Our service and customer support is unsurpassed. Our technical team is available 24/7. Our proprietary order entry and tracking system ensures timely, consistent service.

What do I need to get started?

If you have high-speed internet and digital radiography, we can set you up in a few hours. If you use film radiography, it may take a few days to get the equipment in place. Our technical team is available to handle everything.

Should I wait until my CR or DR system is installed before I use your service?

We can provide the equipment necessary to start taking advantage of our services today. This is all at no additional expense. When the DR or CR system is finally installed, our technical team will make the new connections to our system and remove our equipment.

I currently use a similar service. How do I switch to DentalRays?

If you currently send your x-rays and imaging studies out for interpretation, then you are most likely ready to send to DentalRays as well. Our technical team will do an analysis and determine exactly what is needed. Chances are that you can begin using DentalRays' service in a few short hours.

I read my own x-rays. Why do I need your service?

Radiologists spend three years in advanced training to master the specialty. Even dentists or dental specialists most skilled at reading x-rays will have errors of omission and errors of misdiagnosis. Often, a radiographic image thought to be normal is later determined to be abnormal. Many of the errors are significant and can affect patient outcome. DentalRays' specialists can help reduce misdiagnosis and improve the quality of care and follow-up for all patients in your practice.

How will my practice benefit from your service?

By partnering with DentalRays, you have access to board-certified radiologists on the cutting edge of dental medicine. With our STAT service, our radiologists can interpret your x-rays and imaging studies and prepare final reports and recommendations in less than 60 minutes.

Can we advertise that we partner with DentalRays?

Of course! By having all your x-rays and imaging studies read by the DentalRays board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologists, you are improving both patient care and your practice's image. Direct links to our website also are allowed.

What is the training and education of your radiologists?

All of our radiologists have completed a three-year residency in oral and maxillofacial radiology and are certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Many of our radiologists are actively involved in resident education as well as national speaking engagements.

Are your radiologists licensed to practice in my community?

At DentalRays, we follow strict licensing requirements. Our oral and maxillofacial radiologists only read exams from states in which they hold a license and/or meet state requirements.

What is the expected turnaround time?

STAT exams are guaranteed in 60 minutes or less. Routine exams are guaranteed in 24 hours or less. Typical turnaround times are actually less.

How are radiology reports communicated back to the clinic or hospital?

Our proprietary reporting system is designed specifically for teleradiology. Once an exam request is made, it is immediately prioritized and routed to a DentalRays radiologist, who interprets the images and completes the report. Our proprietary system automatically routes the final report back to the ordering dentist or dental specialist, clinic or hospital. Reports can also be viewed via or secure internet-based system.

Will we be able to access old reports?

Yes. We archive all reports for future reference, a value-added service that few other radiology consultation services provide.

What technical support services are available?

Our technical support team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

What are the hours of coverage?

7 days a week 24 hours a day.
